Mehndi (Henna Tattoo)
Mehndi is the application of henna as a temporary form of skin decoration, most popular in Southeast Asia , India, the Middle East, North Africa and Somaliland. It is typically employed for special occasions, particularly weddings. It is usually drawn on the hands and feet, where the color will be darkest.
Henna paste is usually applied to the skin using a plastic cone. The painted area is then wrapped to lock in body heat or heat is applied, creating a more intense colour on the skin. The final colour is reddish brown and can last anywhere from two weeks to several months.
The patterns of mehndi are typically quite intricate and can include floral, abstract, and natural themes and patterns.
